A Trailer for Alex Proyas' 'Knowing'

Hi. I like movies by Alex Proyas. Everyone likes Dark City and The Crow, but I like I, Robot, too. Is it a visionary masterpiece like Dark City? It is not. But in 2004, it was the most seamlessly beautiful f/x spectacle I had ever seen. If there's one thing Proyas can do, it's make one hell of a great-looking movie.
By the look of the trailer that debuted at IGN yesterday, Knowing, Proyas's new sci-fi project with Nicolas Cage, will be along the conventional, expensive lines of I, Robot rather than his earlier work. The plot seems like a less-than-promising mix of Next and The Number 23, and Cage looks like he'd rather be somewhere else. But, uh... it sure looks great. And the thing that happens about a minute-and-a-half in convinces me that everything they said after September 11th about what we will and will not be able to consider entertainment from here on out has gone completely out the window. Which is just as well.
Despite my affinity for all things Proyas, I'll take yesterday's genuinely creepy trailer for The Day the Earth Stood Still over this one. But at least we have some non-comic-book sci-fi to look forward to.

3. I totally agree. I'd consider myself a fan of Proyas, and I too thoroughly enjoyed 'I, Robot'. This doesn't look like it has the scope some of his other stuff did, and the allusions to '23' and 'Next' are spot on.
I know Cage is capable of acting, it just seems recently he's been in another place in his films.
Either way, I think this has the possibility of being enjoying, and I'll see it because I dig Proyas and Cage.

5. yeah i have to admit...this looks awful. like...worthy of nicolas cage's recent career choices awful. and yeah, it really is the number 23 on a grander scale...."The Number 23- this time, it's GLOBAL"....as much as i LOVE dark city, i'll be passing...proyas has only one good movie to his name and that isn't enough.

6. After Dark City I had such great expectations for Proyas. I have no idea why anyone would like I-robot, they might as well have taken Asimov's masterpiece and turned into a gay musical. Proyas sold out, not before taking Chris Cunningham's robot design and turning it into a lame CGI character. You got to admit that the story had a lot more to offer than a forgettable summer flick. Now this Mothman prophecy bore, is this Proyas or M. Night Shyamalan? Didn't this already happen to Jim Carrey? Looks like one more cheesy Cage last option DVD rental...Oh and by the way, I am soooo scared of those numbers running out! Scary! :P

1. Funny how a director can build up so much banked credit. Even with typicality of the trailer and most of the ingredients involved, I'll be there opening day. Alex Proyas could attach his name to a snuff film of my family and I'd still be there opening day.
